BrowserStack Review – Good, When it Works
I’ve been a subscriber of BrowserStack.com for a couple months now, so I thought I’d write a short review about it. If you’re not familiar with BrowserStack, bascially it’s a site that allows you test your websites on a slew of different browsers and operating systems, including mobile browsers. It’s every web developer’s dream if you think about it. Here’s the issue though – I have had more problems with it lately than it’s worth, and to top that off the support has been pretty much non-existant.
Let’s start off with problem number one. About a month ago, I was having issues with their OS X platforms. I would try to test on the iPhone or iPad for example, and kept getting an issue where it would only show the top part of the screen, and the VM was totally unresponsive. Here’s a few screenshots to demonstrate the behavior:
I was hoping it was only a temporary problem, but I still seem to have this issue – and on several different machines. I emailed the support department the screenshots, and have still not gotten a reply back, and this was over a month ago. Note that this problem doesn’t happen every time, it seems to be sporadic. Okay, I can live with that. I just have to keep trying to get one to work.
Now, on to my latest problem. I have been totally unable to connect to any of the machines due to the following error message:
I have tried on multiple machines on totally separate networks and still get the same message. So, I’ve emailed the support department again, still no response. I’ve tried tweeting to them, still no response. I could understand if they were having temporary problems, but there hasn’t been any posts made regarding the issue on their website or their Twitter. Just silence. No response from support. Gotta love those crickets.
Anyway, I thought I’d share my experience with them and if I continue to receive no response will be cancelling my subscription promptly. I will set up my own VM’s for testing. If you use BrowserStack, how has your experience been?
